A recent article from popular tech magazine, Wired, just featured us as the Spirit Pioneers we are. Much like today’s explorers our namesake, Willem Barentsz, was a visionary committed to a vision few others could appreciate. He dedicated his entire life to discovering the world seeking the Northeast Passage. A voyage filled with danger and adventure from fighting off hungry polar bears and treacherous waters.
With that thirst for adventure (albeit from the safety of our distillery) our founder Michael Claessens inspired by his own Dutch lineage, has dedicated himself to innovation crafting a premium gin that you can drink neat!
If you prefer a cocktail, you can try Barentsz G&T or a Barentsz Martinez a cousin of the Manhattan. This lovely cocktail features Gin, Sweet Vermouth, Luxardo Maraschino, and Angostura bitters which offers an earthy root flavour.
Wired chose our famous cocktail inspired by Barentsz himself. This cocktail hits all the right notes and may just inspire your own adventure!
The Explorer
50ml Willem Barentsz Gin
25ml Lime Juice
20ml Explorer Spice Syrup (see below for the recipe)
20ml Apple Juice
2 bags of Earl Grey Tea
Explorer Spice Syrup
1 part water, 1.5 parts caster sugar, 4 cloves, 1 star anise, 6 black peppercorns, 1 cardamom pod
Simmer all ingredients for 20 minutes and strain.
Shake it all together and fine strain into a tea cup.
